K:Rod: He Will Wear…

By / December 11, 2008 / Uncategorized

…number 75 as predicted by NYR on this site. This was actually a question I received a lot since the signing.

K-Rod has chosen to wear #75. Obviously he was not going to get #57 because it is worn by fellow Mets pitcher, Johan Santana.

There is an interesting article on Mets.com about this history of some of the numbers previous Mets players have worn and what some numbers mean.

This was also on the site and I thought it was great.

75 backwards is 57. [Obviously!] They could be the perfect bookend numbers around Citi Field in 2009. It was just a year ago that the Mets acquired the player widely considered the best starting pitcher in baseball. Now they have paired him with the dominant closer in the game. If you’re thinking combo, you might as well make sure you have a Johan Santana jersey in your closet, too.

Are you excited yet?

JJ Putz in the eigth, Francisco Rodriguez in the ninth.

If they can co-exist, do their job and get it done… You will see the best 1-2 punch in the league.

Not only that. God forbid if K-Rod goes down we have a proven, solid and probably Top 8 closer in Putz to take over.

Looks like the Mets got the right #75 for their team because a few years ago, Barry Zito could’ve been a Met and he wears #75 as well. I bought my personalized Santana #57 jersey last season. Now I’m sending Santa a letter for a #75 jersey. Hope the letter doesn’t get lost in the mail…
