Cameron To Return To NY

By / December 15, 2008 / Hot Stove

This is what everybody is thinking will happen, but it won’t be to the New York Mets.

The NY Post is reporting the New York Yankees are in talks with the Milwaukee Brewers to get the former Mets centerfielder in exchange for Kei Igawa and Melky Cabrera.

What’s the hold up?

Deciding on who is going to pick up the tab on Igawa’s $12 million contract. After all, he was a very expensive flop.

This makes sense. I mean, the Yankees stole CC Sabathia right from under the Brewers. So why would they want to give money to them.

Make the Yankees pay…literally…for the errors of their ways.

One note, the Yankees could be shopping Xavier Nady to unload to some money from their payroll. If they do, should the Mets get him?

DUH!

I would love to have Nady back. He would fit in nicely in the line-up hitting 6th. Moving Church up to 2nd in the order. He is a good defensive outfielder who can play left field. And he is a right-handed bat. What does that do, it makes the bench better and deeper.

With Nady, the Mets could have one of the strongest benches in the NL. However, if the Mets are going to keep Murphy on the team, given his young age, if he can’t get 400 or more at-bats, it might not be good for his development to spend so much time on the bench. If Church gets hurt again or can’t come back to his first-half of 2008 self, then Nady would be fantastic because the Tatis/Murphy platoon can stay intact.

I think if the Mets got Nady, Murphy would start the year off in the minors. That way he can work on his defense and get at-bats.

I would love to see Nady back. I have to agree with Nilvio. The Mets bench would be deep. We could go into extra innings with confidence that our guys on the bench are going to get the job done.
