The attempt the Oakland A’s made to acquire Rafael Furcal was all for nothing. The Atlanta Braves, whom nobody thought was even in the race, swooped in and are the likely ones to get him.
The tentative contract is for three years at $30 million. That’s $10 million less than the A’s offer. However, there is a vesting option for a fourth year to make this deal worth $40 million.
It was beign rumored the only way they would get him is if they traded Kelly Johnson and Yunel Escobar away.
That has not happened. They are likely to move Furcal to second base to accomodate Escobar at shortstop.
This is not official. He needs to pass a physical.
All this according to Ken Rosenthal on FoxSports.com.
