Angels Sign Fuentes

The Anaheim Angels have found their new closer in former Colorado Rockies closer, Brian Fuentes.

The deal is, as we all knew it would be, for a substantially less amount than what the Mets gave K-Rod.

It’s a two year deal for $17.5 million with an option for 2011 worth $9 million.  The total value would be $26.5 million.

I am pretty shocked at this deal. I did not think Fuentes would settle for anything less than $30 million. Great job by the Angels getting more bang for their buck. Now if they can only get into the World Series again.

I would love to see a K-Rod vs. Fuentes game. A game where the closers determine the champion. That would be great. A Game 7, tied game, and we are in extra innings. That would be crazy.

I think the Angels made a great deal. They don’t need to overspend because they’re in the easiest division to win. Does anyone really think the Rangers, A’s and Mariners can compete with them? They can win that division with their eyes closed. As far as the K-Rod vs. Fuentes matchup in Game 7 of the World Series goes, I’ll be pulling extra hard for the NL in the All-Star Game so that the game can be played at Citi Field.

Good for Fuentes and the Angels on this deal. Fuentes is a local boy who grew up only a few miles from Angels Stadium. He wont be another K-Rod and save 62 games, but i do see him having a solid season and getting 30 plus saves for the Halos.
