The Phillies Taking Hand-Me-Downs

First the Philadelphia Phillies are interested in Moises “Grandpa Met” Alou as reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, solely because they need a right handed bat. They would prefer Nomar Garciaparra and are using Alou as a last resort.

Now reports are circulating from the Philadelphia Daily News that they want Ty Wigginton.

They are going after the Mets hand-me-downs.

Reasons for going after Wiggy is they need insurance for third base. After Pedro Feliz’s back surgery during the off season, they are not sure how it will hold up.

Wigginton would be that insurance. He has played third base for the New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Houston Astros.

If that’s the case, maybe the Mets should get younger and stronger at third base. Wigginton has a grudge against the Mets and he loves to barrel into people.
