MLB.com reported on Friday the Boston Red Sox and their Captain, Jason Varitek have struck a one-year deal for $5 million. There is a club option for an additional $5 million for 2010 and a $3 million player option.
That’s not all. There is an additional $2 million Varitek can make through incentive clauses if “he exercises the option and not the Red Sox”, as reported by the Boston Globe.
Frankly, Scott Boras screwed this up. Varitek could have been making a guaranteed $10 million for 2009 alone had he accepted arbitration. But we all know how greedy Boras is.
Still looking out for himself and not the players he represents. Boras, I’d be careful if I were you.
