Remember This Guy?

Jason Phillips. Some used to call him “Goggles”. He was a sweetheart of a guy. He was a catcher for the New York Mets from 2001-2004.

His only great offensive years came in 2002 and 2003 where he batted .368 and .298. It was all downhill from there.

Well it is being reported by the Seattle Post-Intelligencer the Seattle Mariners have signed Phillips to a minor league deal and got an invite to Spring Training.

They are reporting he will be replacing the injured Luis Oliveros. He is scheduled for surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.

Phillips last played for the Atlanta Braves Triple-A team last year hitting .273.

I will root hard for Jason Phillips to make the roster of the Mariners. My Girl and i got to know him a little in 2002 when he and his wife would come to my job. He’s a class act and baseball with all the steriods garbage, could use more guys like Phillips.
