I have 10 minutes before my computer goes down again. So here goes.
Tonight on a little television program called LoudMouths, one of the many topics was Jose Reyes.
As you all know, Reyes arrived to Spring Training Camp today. Before you have a heart attack over him being late, he had a legit reason. He and his wife welcomed a new child into the world.
Reyes was asked by a reporter how he felt about the whole Mets and Phillies rivalry. His response will shock you. It isn’t the typical Reyes response.
Here’s what he said:
“We don’t worry about Philly. I don’t know why they worry so much about the New York Mets. They can talk about whatever they want to, because we worry about us.
They are the one to win the World Series, not us, and we don’t say nothing about them. We just say congratulations to the Phillies.
We focus on them when we play them, but they always seem like they’re talking something about us, and I don’t know why.”
YAY! I’m glad Reyes stood up and said it. Instead of just mouthing off right back, he made a statement that I have asked myself time and time again.
The Phillies are the (ew) World Champions. They won the World Series. Why in bloody heck would they even talk about the Mets? It took them 28 years to do it.
Heck! It’s only their second championship is over 100 years of existence. If you ask me, that’s not something to be proud of.
Enjoy your championship and stop worrying about the team two states away…unless you think you have a reason to worry.
I just wanted to point out this new found maturity Reyes has seemed to have found. I’m proud of him. He did what his teammates couldn’t. He didn’t throw out more fighting words.
My message to Philly:
Get over yourselves! We all understand New York is the greatest city. New York will always be superior to you. Just know it and accept it. It would be better that way.
