Apparently Pedro’s declarations of wanting to return to the Mets have not fallen on deaf ears.
Pedro Martinez knew that his only chance at getting a major league deal with any team is by using the WBC to branch out his campaign. It worked! Teams have taken interest.
Three of those teams are the Houston Astros, Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets.
According MLB Trade Rumors, Jon Heyman says the Mets have already made an offer to Pedro somewhere between $1-2 million.
Now, we all know Pedro wants $5.5 million guaranteed and $5 million in incentives. So he will more than likely shoot this deal down. Yet curiously enough, he has not sold his property here in the tri-state area.
Will he come to New York? Or will he go back to the team that he started his career with? If he is considering retirement after this year, I say go with the team your heart is with.
My advice to Pedro:
Pedro, if you really love the Mets and if you really want a chance to do what you came to New York to do, then I suggest you sign.
Don’t play the role of Manny Ramirez where you hold out for whoever offers the most money. If you do, you lose the respect of this writer.
