Darren O’Day Is Gone

By / April 22, 2009 / Uncategorized

SNY is reporting the Texas Rangers have claimed Darren O’Day off of waivers.

He was placed on waivers in order for the Mets to make room for Nelson Figueroa, who was later designated for assignment.

I think he got an unfair shot with the Mets. Yes the three runs that he inherited all scored, but the same thing happened with Pedro Feliciano and other bullpen guys. Yet they are still with the Mets.

The Mets had to do what they had to do. They needed the spot start from Figueroa. O’Day seemed like the expendable guy.

My take on O’Day being let go and now claimed by Texas is this..It’s way to early to see if O’Day would have been a key part of the pen, so i really don’t know if i should be upset or not react at all. Now the whole Nelson Figueroa thing upsets me. The Mets need to wake up and see that Figueroa would be a good long man out of the pen, who would keep the Mets in games that they would be trailing early when a starter does not get it done and is out but the first few innings. (Hello Oliver Perez.) heck i’d say Figueroa would be the best long man the Mets would have since Darren Oliver in 2006. Something for the Mets to think about.
