“Hi. My name is Tanya and I’m a Mets fan.”
I mean, seriously. After this Subway Series, I think we all are going to find ourselves in a Mets support group.
After amazing wins against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets have managed to lay an egg against the Yankees.
Last night against the Milwaukee Brewers, they managed to attempt a comeback, only it was too little too late. The damage had already been done and lost the game 10-6.
So what is there really to say? Do you give up the season and just start building up for next year?
If you’re a die-hard, you stick around. If you’re a casual fan, you’ll just stay on the deck flipping around like a fish probably figuring on giving up on this team.
I am among the biggest pessimist Mets fans. I never think the Mets will accomplish anything.
Yet, what can we really flip out about?
So the Mets have slipped to third place. It is not exactly by 10 games. It is only by three games and only 2.5 out of first. So what is everybody gripping about?
Look! There are only three weeks until the All-Star Break. The Mets are due to start getting their actual major league players back after the break.
Carlos Delgado is doing well. There have been no setbacks.
Jose Reyes has started to jog, but I’m not sure if he’ll return in July or August. He is leaving for Port St. Lucie today. No word on when the rehab games will start.
Carlos Beltran went for a second opinion. Very smart man! Never leave your fate in the hands of butchers. All he needs is rest and no surgery.
When will he return? When he is completely pain-free. I’m sure it will be after the break. Even then, it is not known how long he can play for before he is in pain again.
JJ Putz will be returning as well. Along with Billy Wagner, at some point in August.
Scream all you want. GM Omar Minaya is not sitting on his hands. He is working the phones.
Look! Even Phillies GM Ruben Amaro, Jr. has said that nobody is making anybody available for reasonable prices because so many teams are still in the race. It is going to take teams falling off the map between now and the deadline before things really start happening.
So go ahead! Scream to your heart’s content. It is going to fall on deaf ears. Nobody is listening because everybody knows what needs to be done. Whether it gets done now or later or at all is up to the various teams in the league.
You should be happy the team actually has a shot to make a push for the playoffs. Other teams do not have that shot.
Even if moves were to be made, nothing is going to guarantee the Mets will make it.
Mets fans want a guarantee.
You are not going to get it. What will you get? Perseverance. That will have to do. If that is a problem, well then it sucks to be you.
