Pedro Signs With The Enemy

So the Phillies have shown just how desperate they are for pitching.

They have signed Pedro Martinez. This according to an unconfirmed report in the Candela Deportiva. Hispanics are notorious for being gossips. Is it really a shocker there is no confirmation to this report?

Well the amount is supposed to be for one year at around $4 million which is one million less than what the New York Mets were offering him.

Other reports that Matthew Cerrone over on Mets Blog has heard say the actual deal is for $1.75 million.

Pedro has not yet accepted the deal and the Phillies will not confirm the reports. It is being said that he will decide whether or not to sign with them by Sunday.

If he really wanted to pitch with the Mets, he would have just signed. The Mets were offering around the same amount between one and two million. Pedro declined stating he wanted $5.5 million and $5 million in incentives.

We will soon find out where he will end up. It will either be in Philly or back in the Dominican Republic.

So here’s the question of the day:

After watching Livan struggle for a second straight outing tonight, I would have taken a chance. Surely, Pedro can’t be as bad as Livan was for those two games.
