Sullivan Replaces Nieve

By / July 20, 2009 / Injuries

Outfielder Cory Sullivan will be taking pitcher Fernando Neive’s place on the roster tonight against the Washington Nationals. He will be wearing number 19.

Nieve has been place on the disabled list. Oh there’s a surprise! We all knew that was happening.

I keep wondering why bring up Sullivan. Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post said in a tweet Sullivan was picked over Nick Evans because Sullivan is more versatile.

The Mets have not decided on bringing up Jonathan Niese. It is being speculated he will be brought up on Saturday. Jerry Manuel said he was surprised that Niese was not chosen to replace to Nieve.

Why should he be? He’s the one who has been reluctant to bring the kid up.

Sullivan has had decent numbers in Triple-A Buffalo with an average of .290, two home runs and 24 RBIs in 85 games.

I actually disagree. The way the Mets have handled injuries, especially leg injuries, the fact that the injured player is on the DL in less than 24 hours is a surprise. Then I heard that it was a tear (though I don’t know the timing of the injury news vs. the DL move).

This is another move that won’t make much of a difference with this Mets team. They should just call up Niese and Figgy and get rid of Pokey.
