You can talk about Omar Minaya not bringing in enough guys. You can yell about Jerry Manuel messing up too. You would not be completely wrong. Yet you are overlooking somone.
I’ve been asked by reader Efrain Rivera about Tony Bernazard being the fall guy for this year. I’ve addressed this here about two weeks ago.
Phony Bernazard is the man who I would consider getting rid of. I’ve actually been calling for his job for two years now. It is no secret he is a back-stabbing low-life who is only lookng out for himself. When he went on GM interviews during the offseason, I was praying he would be hired.
He is the VP of Player Development for the Mets. Have you seen any developments in the minors? The only thing he seems to be interested in developing anything with is a deep relationship with the Wilpons.
The Mets do not have a deep farm system, if you can even call it that. What little they have, they would like to keep. Nothing wrong with that.
What is wrong is the players in farm are not developing. If they are not developing, how could they possibly help the New York Mets? It is impossible. There is no way.
Minor leagues are for the direct purpose of developing the talent of potential major leaguers to come up to the majors to compete. Have you seen any that can do this?
With all minor leaguers this team has brought up to the major league level for help, have you seen any success? I surely have not.
Argenis Reyes did nothing to help. Nick Evans showed potential, but in all honesty I was not that impressed. I do not think Cory Sullivan will be of any help.
Jonathan Niese and Nelson Figueroa could help this team if they would just bring them up. The only reason Figgy could is because he has experience in the majors and we know what he can do.
Fernando Martinez has been nothing but one injury after another. Now he has to have surgery. It is hard to make an argument for the Mets to keep him. Jose Reyes had a history of leg injuries. Just when we thought everything was okay, look what happens. So I’m not putting much stock in to Martinez.
With the exception of a few guys that scouts are praising, there is not much to be proud of. That falls on Bernazard. He is the man for the draft. He has not gotten us much. He is the man in charge of development. Have you seen anything to get excited about in Triple-A.
Most of our Triple-A team will be career minor leaguers. I do not see them coming up to help this team. The ones that have been brought up were most definitely not ready. Triple-A has been nothing more than a flop. Just another waste, another joke for people to poke at.
So go ahead. Scream at Minaya and Manuel. You’ll be making Phony a very happy man. He’s just itching for them to lose their jobs. He was the man who got Willie Randolph fired. I fully believe that if it were not for him, Willie might have stayed on, at the very least, through the 2008 season.
