Welcome Back Wags

By / August 20, 2009 / Uncategorized

I’m sure all of you who got to see Billy Wagner come in and pitch in tonight’s game against the Atlanta Braves were very thrilled.

Great job by all in welcoming him back. I wish I had seen it. Unfortunately, I was on my home from work.

Wagner had been gone from the Mets for a year recovering from Tommy John surgery. He came back in style.

Earlier, Wags had been saying:

It’s not much fun to be healthy and watching. When you’re healthy and watching, it’s kind of depressing.

Well, it changed tonight when he was finally activated. He pitched one inning striking out two batters.

This is what the Mets needed. Wagner was very impressive. I do want to see more from him before I say the Mets should bring him back in place of J.J. Putz.

I will not even say he should replace Francisco Rodriguez.

Welcome back, Billy Wagner. We missed you. We definitely needed you. Continue like this and we just might see you in 2010.

That is if he can get through waivers. The Mets decided to place the veteran closer on waivers earlier today. Teams have until Tuesday to claim him.

There is a good chance a team who has a chance at the playoffs will claim him. I do not think he will be with the Mets after Tuesday. I would be really surprised.

It was nice to see him back. His slider was bitting last night. I think the Yankees will claim him. Think about it, Marte or Wagner? I would take him, he is a perfect compliment to Rivera. And he would pitch against Drew and Big Papi. That is deadly if the Yanks get him. He is still making a lot of money, so I don’t see a team like Florida or S.F. or Tampa going after him.
