There is an old saying that goes something like this:
Be careful what you wish for. You just might get it.
In this case, start celebrating. Oliver Perez is now out of the rotation. I know it is a little harsh. I just thought I would be funny.
Unfortunately, he is the third starting pitcher we lose for the rest of the season, the second for season ending surgery.
Yesterday it was announced Johan Santana will have surgery on his elbow yet again to remove bone chips.
It does not really matter anymore. The season is over.
As much as I wanted Perez out, I did not want it to be this way. I feel sorry for him. He is scheduled to have surgery on that balky right knee of his which has patellar tendinitis.
Good luck Perez! I do wish you a quick recovery. Unfortunately, we’ll be seeing you in 2010. Nobody else in baseball is dumb enough to pay him $36 million. Well, other than the Mets anyway.
One word of advice for Perez:
Try to actually stay fit this time. Do not come to the team for Spring Training looking like a train wreck. You still have to do some conditioning while you are rehabbing.
