Ever have a dream about having a great pitcher on the rotation? You know what I’m talking about. A rotation with a great one-two punch. Two top guys who, when they pitch, you can just sit back and relax because you know you are winning because the opposing team is not going to score more than 2 runs.
That was my dream. I dreamed of a rotation with Johan Santana followed by Felix Hernandez.
Then I woke up and saw this.
Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners have struck a multi-year deal: five years for $78 million.
Only $78 million! I thought he would get more than that. The kid won 19 games last year. 19!
On top of that, his ERA was at 2.49. He had 217 strikeouts and only 71 walks. The stats for Oliver Perez are reversed. Perez would be lucky if he could even get 71 strikeouts.
Right now, all I want to do is get some Haagan-Daz cookies and cream, sit on the sofa, and cry.
My dreams of a Johan Santana-Felix Hernandez one-two punch have been shattered.
