The problem with being an addict, is you are one for the rest of your life. The best way to deal with it, is to stay away from it and anybody who is involved in it. Apparently, that concept has not dawned on Mr. Dwight Gooden.
We all know that he has had a history of problems with drugs and alcohol. So does this latest arrest come to anyone as a shock? Me not so much. I had hoped that the Doc would have his problems licked though. I always wished him the best.
Here is the press release as printed byDeadspin:
3/23/2010 – At 8:50 am, officers responded to a 911 report of an auto accident on Old Mill Rd. involving two vehicles. After conducting an on-scene investigation, officers arrested one of the drivers, Dwight GOODEN, age 45 of Franklin Lakes, NJ. GOODEN was charged with the following:
Under the Influence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
Endangering the Welfare of a Child
Driving While Under the Influence of Drugs
DWI with a Child Passenger
Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident
Failure to Keep Right
Failure to Notify Change of Address regarding driver’s license
Mr. GOODEN was released on his own recognizance. Officers Jon RYNANDER and Robert LYON investigated.
I have to laugh. I do. Why? Simple. Far be it for Gooden to do anything by small standards. If he’s going to get in trouble, let it be for multiple reasons, right? Not one charge. Not two. Not even three. But instead, he is up against eight charges. Alcohol was not enough either. He went for drugs too.
What kills me is the endangering of a child part. You want to endanger yourself, go ahead. Of course I don’t want Gooden to do that either. I was a big fan of his as a kid. He was one of my first big Mets players. But how dare he put the life of a child in danger.
The ironic part is he was invited by the New York Mets to go to Spring Training as a “spring training advisor”. Gooden declined citing the pregnancy of his wife. A child is being brought into this world by him and his wife and yet he still endangers a child. This is a man who is going to be a father. I cannot handle it.
Everybody has a hero. Everybody tries to emulate somebody out there, whether it is a celebrity, a friend, or a family member.
How come Gooden cannot emulate Darryl Strawberry?
