Update 6:49pm: According to a tweet by Anthony DiComo, Jerry Manuel stated that a decision will be made on Ike Davis after bullpen situation is resolved.
So the moves have been made for tonight’s game and probably brings one player one step closer.
Instead of Raul Valdes being optioned, the casualty was Mike Jacobs…again. He is gone to make room for Tobi Stoner and Frank Catalanotto will be playing first base tonight. Jason Bay will get the night off which put Catalanotto as the clean up hitter. Gary Matthews, Jr. will play center field so that Angel Pagan can play left field. Alex Cora gets the start at second base.
So with Jacobs gone, could it mean the Mets are preparing for Ike Davis? Maybe. Everybody would certainly like to think so. What everybody forgets is that Daniel Murphy is still a part of this team and will be returning to the Mets and the Mets still have Chris Carter in the minors. So do not too excited just yet. It would be between Davis and Carter.
So the lineup is going to look like this:
- Matthews, Jr.
It seems weird not to have Bay in the lineup. But he really was not doing the Mets any good in the lineup. Maybe getting some time off will help him to get his head straight. He needs to figure out what is wrong with himself and do it fast. So I stand behind taking him out of the lineup.
So let’s see what this does for the team. Hopefully, it will be a good thing. Let’s see if the Mets will bring up the man of the minors, Ike Davis.
