Curse Breaks Toes

Well I’m sure the Philadelphia Phillies are cursing the SI curse at the moment. Once upon a time, well, only just last year, it was the Mets that suffered one injury after another. Thanks to SI, the injury baton has been passed down to the Phillies.

The latest victim? Ryan Madson. The curse has broken his right toe. Naturally, he has been placed on the 15-day disabled list. I do not see how he can come back from a broken toe in 15 days. He’ll be out for awhile.

Not that would miss him much. I mean, he does have an ERA of seven. Not good. Also not our problem.

How did he break it? Well, supposedly it happened after Wednesday’s game. It just so happened he blew the save that day. Maybe he was mad at himself because it allowed the Mets take over first and he kicked something in frustration.

In either case, the Phillies have decided to call up LHP Antonio Bastardo from Triple-A. At the same time, Brad Lidge is coming off the disabled list today. Lidge, during his rehab stint, posted a 5.19 ERA in eight appearances. Will Lidge be placed back into the closer’s role? I guess we’ll find out tonight.

Should be a great series!
