No Call For Arm

By / June 19, 2010 / 2010 Season, Injuries

There is talk about John Maine being designated for assignment by MLB Trade Rumors. Before that, there was talk

about the his return. Questions like “when will he return?” or “how  many rehab starts should he get?” were being asked to Omar Minaya.

My question is: Should John Maine return? My answer is a resounding: HELL NO!

Look, I like Maine. He works hard. He does not half-ass anything. At the same time, you have to consider what isbest for the team. Is is better for the team if Maine returns? Um NO!

There is an old saying: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Definitely words to live by. The Mets have a solid rotation right now. Why mess with it? Keep Maine out of the picture. I’m hoping they can keep Oliver Perez permanently out. If they are going to DFA Maine, then they have to DFA Perez as well. There is nothing to think about.

Right now we have five pitchers who are pitching life we are already in September. Johan Santana and Mike Pelfrey are the aces. Jonathon Niese is making a name for himself. He is blossoming. R.A. Dickey has been huge. I believe a knuckleballer always is. Then there is Hisanori Takahashi who is probably the long successful Japanese player the Mets have had in recent memory.

So if you are Omar Minaya, what would you do?

I would give Maine his walking papers with the best of luck.

I somewhat agree. I think it is for the best if he does not return to the club. During the game today Gary, Keith & Ron seemed to think that Maine could be optioned to the minor leagues when his rehab stint is over. If that’s true I am willing to settle for that, they don’t have to release or trade him. Just keep him off the 25 man major league roster, that will be good enough for me.

I agree that John Maine should not be on the 25 man roster, but with that being said I believe he still has potential and just needs to workout the kinks. I say send him to the minors. The only way I would trade him is if we could get an upgrade in return. (Which is highly unlikely) If anybody deserves his walking papers I say its Oliver Perez. Nobody is gonna want him so I say release him and take the loss, I don’t care how but just get the BUM out of NEW YORK!!

I say send Maine to AAA Buffalo, keep him there for as long as it takes till he get life back on his fastball. What the Mets need to do is be bold and go get Cliff Lee so we can have the 3 Aces along with Niese and Dickey. We all know Cliff Lee wants to stick it to those clowns from FAILadelphia. Lets get him !
