Fight. Grit. Loose. Passion. Music. Slogan. History. Yes I included music in the way to describe the 2010 New York Metropolitans baseball season.
I want you to really look at and think about this team. What is the slogan? We believe in comebacks. What is one of the most classic rock songs that is playing on every radio station right now? Don’t Stop Believing by Journey. Everything in and out of the clubhouse is about believing.
What we have seen from this team? Not just fight. Not just grit. We have been witness to some amazin’ comebacks. This team has the flair for the dramatic: from dugout catches by Ike Davis to walk-off homers by Rod Barajas.
At the same time, they are loose. The last time we saw a Mets team so loose was in 2006. Remember they made the playoffs that year. They are having fun. There is no stress.
When a team can joke about their road record, some would be upset and think this team is not serious about winning. Here is something you need to understand about life. You have to be able to laugh through the hard times while believing you get through it. This team does that.
So while everyone outside of the clubhouse is stressed out, the players are having a jolly old time. As it should be.
Word of advice: Don’t stop believing. Thanks Journey. We most certainly will not. Believin’ is in our history. It is one part of our history we will continue to honor.
