If you think I’m joking, I’m not. They really were. Would I kid you about something like this? Why shouldn’t they
be? They were probably the number one team with the running “choke” jokes for the past three years.
You figure they have the number one mascot in the majors with Mr. Met.
So I think it is only fitting that the Mets should also have the number one logo, right? I hope you did not think that people are picking the Mets as the number one team to beat in the East. That would be ludicrous.
Jim Caple, over at ESPN.com, decided to do on article about the best team logos in Major League Baseball. He picked the Mets as the team with the best logo. Here’s why:
I’m no Mets fan, but I have always loved this logo: the distinctive dark skyline, the white bridge symbolizing the five boroughs, the classic Mets script, the terrific color scheme of orange and blue. My only suggestion: Mr. Met should have it tattooed around his whole head.
Um…tattooed around Mr. Met’s head? Mr. Caple, you have some issues there. I never really thought about the logo, but when you compare to the logos of other teams, it really as rather great. It is the only team logo that really shows its NYC pride.
You can talk about the Phillies logo with the Liberty Bell, but that just proves the organization and their fans are all cracked. Well, now that I think about it, it does suit them nicely, doesn’t it? Oh they were listed at 23.
As I read through all of the logos, I saw some of the old ones too. Some have definitely taken a step up. Have you seen the old logo for the Astros? Oy! I would never wear anything with that logo. I disagree with Caple. The new one is definitely better. I mean, this thing looks like something right out of the Jetsons or the Carousel of Progress from the old World’s Fair they used to have in Flushing (which is now in Walt Disney World).
To see his full list, check out his article. It is a really good read with links to old logos. I liked the old Baltimore logo. The bird looked like something out of a Woody Woodpecker cartoon.
