So as you all know, the MSG Network will be premiering a mini-series about the 1986 New York Mets. Probably the last team who knew what having grit and leaving everything on the field was all about. Well, former Mets manager Davey Johnson is currently in New York for the filming.
Who was the wildest player on the Mets from ’86?
Kevin Mitchell was the craziest player on the’ 86 Mets.
So everything that I read about the 1986 Mets and everything that is going to be shown on this MSG special coming up, is all of this really true?
Oh yeah. It was true. More than you can ever imagine.
How do you feel about the Mets hiring Terry Collins and do you feel that was the right choice?
I thought it was a good hire, but I felt Wally should have gotten the job. I feel its his time and he is ready for this.
Apparently, with all of the experience Backman has had and what he did with the Brooklyn Cyclones last year, Johnson felt this was his time. We can wait another two years.
Joey also took the time to let Johnson know about my website. So he gets bonus points for that. Joey said he would have liked to ask more questions, but he had to help other customers. So that’s all he got, which was pretty good. Personally, I would have asked him about current state of the Mets and how he would handle everything. I am always curious as to how a former manager would deal with a current situation.
Thank you to Joey for the picture and the little interview. Great job!
Here’s a shot of the 1986 WS ring that he was wearing. Wouldn’t it be nice if our current team could actually bring one of these babies home? I mean, it isn’t like we are asking for millions of dollars. Just a small little ring with a trophy and a title attached to it. That’s all!
Let’s Go Mets!
