Day two of the Subway Series in the Bronx. It also happens to be, Harvey Day. Matt Harvey takes on the New York Yankees today for the second time in his career. In 2013, the Mets beat them in a close game at Citi Field, 2-1.
Yankee fans will have you believe that this is a different team. Indeed it is. There is no Robinson Cano. No Ichiro Suzuki. Outside of Brett Gardner, this is a new team. What the crosstown fans do not understand is this is the same dominating pitcher who kept their bats quiet through eight innings. With the DH in place, Harvey could go all nine innings since he will remain fresh throughout the game.
In today’s matchup, the major difference is Harvey will not have the Citi Field dimensions to keep these surging Yankees at bay. Then again, does he really need them? The last meet up did not really require much of a defense. This is how the last meeting went:
