As many Mets fans will tell you, the
New York Mets are creating quite stir among baseball circles.
After a weekend sweep of the Nationals and a 12-1 win over the Marlins in Miami Monday night, people have been commenting all around about the team some thought would fall by the wayside by this time.
If you ask anybody right now, they will easily tell you that it is a great time to be a Mets fan. Sole possession of first place. A trade that brought Yoenis Cespedes to the team for minor leaguers. A pitching staff that is the envy of every pitching coach in the majors. Yes! It is indeed a great time to cheer for the team in Flushing.
If you still are not sure just how amazon’ this team is, just ask former Mets arch nemesis Chipper Jones. During the Marlins game Monday night, he sent out this tweet:
Perhaps he actually has a soft spot for the team he loved to kill.
Nationals right fielder Bryce Harper, on the other hand, has other feelings that are just not so warm and fuzzy. He was quoted in the Washington Post saying:
“You’ve just really try to stay within our team. I don’t give a crap what the Mets are doing. Or Dodgers or Giants or Texas or anybody.”
All of sudden he doesn’t care. It wasn’t that long ago he was talking smack saying the Mets weren’t ready for the big time. Well, it looks like he isn’t ready to handle a hot new team. Someone should tell him to put his big boy pants on.
